Description

Smooth filtering with an analogue character.

Border pairs a high-pass and a low-pass filter based on second order Butterworth curves. Clear out rumble and harsh top end, or shape a sound so it sits in the mix.

Why Border

  • Analogue-style curves: second order Butterworth high-pass and low-pass
  • Resonance per filter: add a musical peak at the cutoff
  • See what you cut: live display with draggable HP and LP nodes
  • Free forever: no iLok, no account

Use it on

  • Rumble and low-end clean-up
  • Harsh top end
  • Making room in a busy mix
  • Filter sweeps with automation

What’s new in 2.2

  • Resonance (RES) per filter, 0.5 to 4, for a musical peak at the cutoff
  • Live display: the filter curve over the output spectrum, with HP and LP nodes you can drag
  • Type exact values, A/B compare
  • Native on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs
  • VST3, AU and AAX
  • Same sound as the original Border at default settings: old sessions load as before

Controls

  • HIGH PASS and LOW PASS: 20 Hz to 20 kHz, type exact values in the readouts
  • RES: resonance per filter, 0.5 to 4
  • Display: drag the HP and LP nodes, left and right for frequency, up and down for resonance
  • A/B: compare two settings

Also free from MIA: Thin, Fat and Muscle.
